The textile and garment industry occupies an important position in Egypt, accounting for 30% of industrial production and 10% of total exports. Egypt's partnership agreement with the EU allows it to export textiles and clothing duty-free to EU countries to boost trade and growth. However, the textile sector has faced challenges during the pandemic, resulting in a 14% drop in Egypt's textile exports in 2020, with exports totaling $2.81 billion compared to $3.721 billion in 2019. Despite the challenges, the sector is well positioned for recovery, with total foreign investment in the sector reaching $17.5 billion and the Egyptian government aiming to quadruple textile and apparel exports by 2025.
